Lou, check out this brilliant post (and especially all the comments) on my favourite blog in the whole wide world: BitchPhD. The woman who does this blog and you have a LOT in common... anyway this particular story is about her son PK (Pseudonymous Kid) who has long hair and what happened in a shop one day- but then there are gazillions of comments about children and gender signifiers etc. Angry Disapproval of Difference
